CORIDA is a mixed INRIA-CNRS-UHP project-team. Our aim is to treat several control problems through a common approach that combines classical methods from the control theory of ordinary differential equations with methods issuing from the analysis of partial differential equations. The foreseeable applications are motivated by challenging problems in such domains as aerospace engineering, fluid mechanics, chemical and pharmaceutical industries. Our goal is to show that for certain applications the use of infinite-dimensional models is both necessary and feasible from a practical viewpoint. We believe that, in order to apply effective control strategies to such infinite-dimensional systems, it is necessary to develop specific links between software libraries aimed at finite-dimensional control (such as the Control Toolbox for MATLAB or SCILAB) and tools used for the numerical solution of partial differential equations (in particular mesh generation algorithms).
